BDIH

Price: The BDIH Standard represents controlled natural cosmetics and was introduced back in 2001 by the Federal Association of German Industry and Trade (BDIH). The aim of the seal is to provide transparency, define natural cosmetics for consumers, and ensure fair competition among manufacturers. The standard describes requirements for the extraction and processing of cosmetic raw materials, with a particular emphasis on animal welfare and conservation. The certification guarantees that only raw materials meeting the following strict criteria are used in the production of certified products:

- Plant-based raw materials must predominantly come from organic farming.
- Animal testing is prohibited during the production, development, and testing of end products.
- Synthetic colorants, fragrances, silicones, paraffins, and other petroleum-based products are not allowed.
- Only specifically mentioned nature-identical substances can be used for preservation, and they must be clearly labeled in the product.
- Raw materials derived from deceased vertebrate animals, such as collagen and animal fats, are not permitted.
- Substances produced by animals, such as milk or honey, are allowed.
- Radioactive irradiation of plant or animal materials is not permitted.
- Only natural (according to ISO standard 9235) and biotechnologically obtained fragrance ingredients are allowed.
- Only physical processes including extraction with water, plant-based alcohol, carbon dioxide, plant-based fats and oils, and resulting glycerin, as well as enzymatic and microbiological processes occurring in nature, are allowed in the production of natural cosmetics.
